Marc Gruber

Academy of Management Scholar Marc Gruber of Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne holds the chair of entrepreneurship and technology commercialization (since 2005) and served as vice president for innovation (2017-2021).

Gruber studies entrepreneurship, strategic management, technology, and innovation management. His work has been published in Academy of Management Journal, Academy of Management Review, and Academy of Management Perspectives, among others. He is coauthor of Where to Play: 3 Steps for Discovering your Most Valuable Market Opportunities (Financial Times/Pearson, 2017), which introduces the Market Opportunity Navigator, a business tool that is part of the Lean Startup toolset and used by tens of thousands of startups and established firms worldwide.

Gruber’s research and mentoring activity has been recognized with multiple awards from the Academy of Management and other professional organizations. He received his master and doctorate degrees from the University of St. Gallen, his habilitation from the University of Munich, and he has held several visiting positions at the University of Pennsylvania and Imperial College Business School. He previously served as an associate editor (2013-2016), deputy editor (2016-2019), and the editor in chief for Academy of Management Journal.
