Technology and Innovation Management Division (TIM)
2026 Call for Professional Development Workshop (PDW) Proposals
Division PDW Chair: Susanne Beck, Warwick Business School
The Technology and Innovation Management Division (TIM) invites innovative proposals for pre-conference Professional Development Workshops (PDWs) within the 86th Annual Meeting of the Academy of Management, which will be held from Friday, 31 July 2026 until Tuesday, 4 August 2026 in Philadelphia, PA.
PDW sessions provide excellent opportunities for exploring emerging research questions or methods, trying out new workshop formats, and fostering conversations on important but understudied phenomena. They can use a variety of formats––methods workshops, tutorials, debates, roundtable discussions, town hall meetings, to name a few––and address ideas or phenomena that might not (yet) fit in the regular program. PDW sessions should engage participants to develop their professional skills and be relevant to scholars interested in topics central to innovation, research and development, and the management of technology.
We aim for a program of diverse, innovative, and highly interactive PDWs that will attract members of the TIM community. TIM members represent a wide range of disciplines and draw from an array of theoretical and empirical research paradigms. More information about the division is available on the TIM website.
We encourage PDWs that focus on a wide range of topics of interest to TIM members, such as: artificial intelligence and other transformative and emerging technologies; managing science and technology professionals, R&D activities, intellectual property and knowledge; open innovation, ecosystem, and platform strategies; geographic influences on, emergence of, and advantages from entrepreneurial ecosystems; technological change and the emergence of new technologies, markets, and business models; strategies for diffusing and capturing value from new technologies; entrepreneur- and technology-based economic growth policies; academic entrepreneurship and university technology transfer; micro-foundations of invention and innovation; practice of and strategies for invention and commercialization.
Acceptance of proposals for TIM PDWs will be based on (a) relevance to the interests of the Division’s membership; (b) novelty and creativity; and (c) plans for creating an interactive, inclusive, and engaging session. We also welcome proposals that identify other Divisions and Interest Groups as co-sponsors, although that is not a requirement for acceptance.
We look forward to receiving your proposal. Please submit your research papers and symposia proposals electronically on or before Tuesday, 13 January, 2026 at 17:00 ET (UTC-5/GMT-5) through the AOM Submission Center beginning early December, 2025. Please consult the Academy of Management website for useful information and submission requirements; please carefully follow the Academy of Management’s submissions guidelines.
