Vision 2030: Research Methods Initiatives
Consistent with Vision 2030’s principles for expanding member value alongside member feedback indicating both the critical importance of methods training and gaps in current offerings, AOM has been exploring opportunities to centralize, expand, and scale research methods resources and services.
Starting in 2025, the Academy of Governor’s Methods Committee launched a Strategic Project Fund call to DIG leaders for Methods Training proposals, and five projects were subsequently awarded. The committee organized a second call for methods training proposals to DIG leaders in 2026, with decisions pending. Implementation updates will be posted to AOM.org as the projects are carried out.
Learn with AOM: Expanding access to Research Methods Education
The Academy of Management is committed to supporting scholars throughout every stage of their research journey and career. As the research landscape continues to evolve—particularly with the rapid development and adoption of artificial intelligence (AI)—access to opportunities for learning, developing, and applying research methods is increasingly important to scholarly and professional development.
AOM is introducing Learn with AOM: Methods Training Series, powered by CARMA, a new online learning opportunity designed to support doctoral students and early-career scholars with accessible, practice-oriented introductions to topics that are foundational for current research methods and data analysis techniques.
I’ve been part of the CARMA community since the first year of my PhD program, and it’s been an invaluable resource throughout my training, from the webcast lectures and online resources to the short courses offered twice a year. As someone whose home institution houses CARMA, I’ve seen firsthand how much value it brings to doctoral students working to build their methods foundation. These new guided mini-courses in partnership with AOM are a fantastic opportunity for AOM members at any career stage to sharpen their skills in current methods and analysis, and a great low-barrier way for affiliate members to experience what CARMA has to offer.
